What language did the Romans speak?

Objective:
SWBAT describe the city of Rome.
Homework:
Read Ch.7, L2 starting at "Legendary Beginning" and stop at "Rome Begins to Expand."
Directions:
- Today, you will have the chance to explore a website about Ancient Rome created by the BBC for kids. (The BBC stands for the British Broadcasting Company. It is a great place to get news and all kinds of information about the world.)
- Click the link below to the "City of Rome."
- Read the whole page about Rome. You will find out the legend of how Rome began and learn a little bit about how Rome was ruled.
- When you are finished reading, take the quiz at the bottom of the BBC page. When you click "mark it", tell Mr. Locke so he can check your score.
- When you are done with the quiz, go back to the social studies website and complete Assignment #2.
- If you finish Assignment #2, go to the "More to Explore" section of the BBC website.
- Go to the BBC "City of Rome" webpage.
- Read the whole page as a group. All the underlined words on the page have links to definitions. Click on them to find out what they mean.
- Click here to see a map of the whole Roman Empire.
- Complete the Quiz at the bottom of the screen.

- Explain in 3 sentences the legend that Romans told to explain how their city began.
- Describe the Roman Republic in 3 sentences. How long did it last? How did it work? How were leaders chosen?
